4:00-4:30    Tour--Birchwood Nature Park Trails

Starting promptly at 4:00 and ending at 4:30, take a Guided Tour of the Nature Trail while there is adequate daylight.  Wear your jacket, gloves and boots!
4:00-5:30    Information Booths--Birchwood Cafeteria
  • CMOST (Children’s Museum of Science and Technology)--Meet educator and animal specialist, Dawn Baldwin, who guides learning about nature through seeing and touching actual animal artifacts.
  • Cornell Cooperative Extension--Explore gardening and plant a seed with Master Gardener (and Birchwood parent) Colleen Castle!
  • Whispering Willow Wild Care--See Live Birds of Prey and learn interesting facts about these species from Joyce Perry of Whispering Willow Wild Care. She
will share 3 birds with us - the big Barred Owl "Ophelia," a Kestrel Hawk, and a Screech Owl.
    • Reptile Adventure--herpetology experts Jessica and Brian Shea will be on hand to show off geckos, a legless lizard, Jenny the tortoise, and (oooh) some snakes!
  • Make Your Own Solar Greenhouse--Bring a clear plastic 2 liter soda or juice bottle with cap and we’ll show you how to construct your own mini Solar Greenhouse (while supplies last).
  • Nature Park Information Table--Explore the history of Birchwood’s original Nature Park, created in 1958. It included a nature trail, forest classroom, a greenhouse, aquarium, and (supposedly) even a zoo! Find out what NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation Chief Botanist Steve Young had to say about the amazing trees and plants still living in the Park. Also, get the latest details on the updated 21st Century Birchwood Nature Park that we hope to create!
**First 50 kids in attendance receive a Stewart’s Shop Single Scoop gift card!**
